Elegant Trogons are one of the many spectacular gems within the trogon family. Elegant Trogons are only a few places in North America including the most southern parts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Whereas in Central America they have a much more extensive range. 

Elegant Trogon males are quite striking birds that can be identified by some of the following characteristics:

• Iridescent green/blue/yellow back, throat, and upper breast
• Broad white band
• Bright vibrant red of the belly and vent 
• Long tail that has fine black and white barring
• Back of tail is a rusty colo
